Teaser for “Ordalie”

Have you ever seen the short film “Mes Amours Decomposé(e)s” with Gaspard as a dead body? The director of said film (Sacha Barbin) worked with Gaspard again for another short called “Ordalie”.

Here is a teaser:

I’ve also added 2 stills to the gallery:

Gaspard on TV

The Franco-German TV Network ARTE is going to produce a mini series (4 x 52 minutes) including Gaspard. Depending on which sources you want to believe, the title is either “Il était une deuxième fois” or “Il était une seconde fois.”

Guillaume Nicloux has been chosen to direct the show that you’ll be able to watch in 2018. I’ll keep you informed!

Back to 1789: “Un peuple et son roi”

Gaspard is going to be in director Pierre Schoeller’s next film “Un peuple et son roi” which is set to be released in 2018. The cast also includes Louis Garrel, Laurent Lafitte, Adèle Haenel, and Olivier Gourmet.

CINEUROPA – The storyline of the movie, written by the director himself, begins in 1789. The people have started revolting. We’d better listen to them, as they have things to say. Un peuple et son roi crosses the destinies of the men and women of the population, and those of historical figures. Their meeting place is the newly founded National Assembly. At the heart of the story lie the fate of the king and the birth of the French Republic…

The French Revolution + period costumes + Gaspard… I don’t know about you guys, but I am VERY excited about this!

Some of you might have noticed that Gaspard Ulliel Daily was offline for a short while… which is one of the reasons why I am a little late in sharing the following news, sorry for that!

Introducing “Les confins du monde”

Gaspard and Gérard Depardieu are going to star in “Les confins du monde” (To The Ends Of The Earth), directed by Guillaume Nicloux.

The plot focuses on the First Indochina War. Gaspard plays Robert, a French soldier whose beliefs take a sharp turn when he falls in love with Maï, a Vietnamese woman (Lang Khê Tran).

The film will be released in France by Ad Vitam, but there’s hope for a bigger distribution! Today, Screendaily reported that the drama is going to be presented in Vietnam by Blue Lantern Entertainment and has been sold to China’s DMG Entertainment as well.

I added a teaser poster and a film still to the gallery:

  • Film, TV, and Stage Productions → Film Productions → Les confins du monde (2017) → Posters

“Vadim Mister Cool”

Vadim Mister Cool” is a TV documentary about Roger Vadim, narrated by Gaspard. Vadim was a famous French director and the ex-husband of Brigitte Bardot, Annette Stroyberg, and Jane Fonda.

Since it’s very likely that many people who follow Gaspard’s career haven’t heard about this film yet, I didn’t want to leave it unmentioned. It was broadcast last December by the Franco-German network ARTE and is now unfortunately only available to subscribers of ina.fr, but you can watch a short extract below:

The documentary is the first project Gaspard lent his voice to since he played Jack Frost in the French version of “Rise of the Guardians” (2012).

Xavier Dolan about Gaspard

I have a little treat for my French speaking visitors in the form of Xavier Dolan praising Gaspard at the César Awards:

Dolan describes Gaspard as extremely intelligent and lists many more positive characteristics before he adds, “In fact, I’m in love with him.”

I’m still super happy that Dolan asked Gaspard to join “Juste la fin du monde” and I hope the fact that they think so well of each other encourages them to work together again someday!

Introducing “9 doigts”

“9 doigts” is an upcoming film by French writer and director F.J. Ossang who is known for his unconventional cinematic style. It tells the story of a young man, Magloire, and the events that unfold after he encounters a dying stranger at an empty train station. Gaspard is going to play a nameless character listed as “Le Docteur” (The Doctor).

The project has been partly financed through donations via touscoprod.com, a French fund-raising site for filmmakers. Shooting started last summer and has still not been completed (according to IMDb), but 10:15 Productions already released a short preview clip that gives you an idea of the film noir atmosphere:

Here is a video of the cast (with English subtitles) including Gaspard:

A more literal translation of Gaspard’s words on the director:

“He manages to bring avant-garde cinema back to life in a completely modern way. Ossang is maybe one of the last great poets of cinema.”

If you speak French, you might also be interested in this interview with Ossang himself.

Since “9 doigts” seems to be an independent film aimed at a niche market, there is probably little hope for a big release. However, Gaspard has already mentioned his interest in experimental, non-conformist cinema several times, so I am very happy for him that he has been given the opportunity to work on this interesting looking project.
